Mechanics

How the game works

You are the planetary investment commander. You start with 1,000 credits and a primitive civilization. Buy shares in sectors, react to historical events, survive crises, and guide your world from cave fires to the stars.

The game unfolds in turns. Each turn advances time — prices shift, new events emerge, your population grows or shrinks. Your portfolio value and the Civilization Stock Index track how well your world is developing.

📈

Invest in sectors

Buy and sell shares in civilization sectors like Food, Tools, Trade, Industry, Technology and Space. Each sector has a base price, volatility rating, and unlocks at a specific era. Prices move every turn based on random market forces, your trades, and event outcomes.

React to events

Every few turns a random event fires — a drought, a factory boom, an AI revolution. You choose from 2–3 responses. Each choice boosts some sectors and hurts others. Choose carefully: your portfolio composition determines what gains or loses the most.

🌍

Advance through eras

Era advancement requires three conditions: the Civilization Stock Index must cross the era threshold, your net worth (cash + holdings) must meet the portfolio gate, AND your population must reach the population gate. All three must be true simultaneously. Fall below the regression threshold while unstable or happiness collapses, and you slide backward.

⚠️

Manage stability

Stability is a hidden resource. Bad event choices, market manipulation, and bubble bursts drain it. Below 50% you get warnings. Below 30% with a falling index, civilization collapses. It recovers slowly — 0.5 points per turn — so avoid reckless decisions.

How to play — step by step

01
🪐
Name Your Planet & Trader
Before the game begins, give your planet a name and choose your trader identity. Pick a currency (EUR, USD, CZK, or GBP) — this is cosmetic only and doesn't affect gameplay. You start with 1,000 credits.
02
🌾
Buy Your First Shares
In the Market Sectors table, click BUY next to any unlocked sector. A trade modal opens. Choose a quantity (5, 10, 25, 50 or custom) and confirm. Your credits decrease; your portfolio value increases. Each purchase slightly raises that sector's price.
03
Advance the Turn
Click NEXT TURN (top right of the screen) to advance time. You can also click anywhere on the comic panorama header for the same effect. All active sector prices fluctuate based on volatility. The Civilization Stock Index updates. Population grows or falls depending on stability, happiness, and food prices. A new event fires shortly after.
04
Respond to Events
An event card appears in the Planetary Dispatch panel on the left. Read the situation carefully, then pick one of the 2–3 choices. Each choice has positive effects on some sectors and negative effects on others. Your decision is logged and the market shifts immediately.
05
💡
Read Insider Tips
Every 5 turns, an Insider Tip appears below the event panel — a whispered rumour about a sector's direction. Tips have 65–75% accuracy. They're not guaranteed, but they're your best edge for timing trades before prices move significantly.
06
📊
Monitor Both Gates
Era advancement requires three simultaneous conditions. The Index Gate: the Civilization Stock Index (avg sector price ÷ base × 1,000) must reach 1,300 → 2,100 → 3,200 → 4,800. The Portfolio Gate: your net worth must reach 1,500 → 4,000 → 12,000 → 35,000. The Population Gate: your population must reach 50 → 200 → 800 → 3,000. All three bars are shown in the Era Progress panel. No single gate alone is enough.
07
🚀
Unlock New Eras
When all three gates are met, your world advances — Agrarian → Industrial → Information → Space. New, higher-value sectors unlock automatically. If the index threshold is met but your wealth or population falls short, the game notifies you and the Planetary Wizard may appear with advice. You must grow both your treasury and your people before the era unlocks.
08
💰
Sell for Profit
Click SELL on any sector you hold shares in. You receive cash equal to current price × quantity. Your profit/loss (P&L) is shown in the log. Selling also slightly lowers that sector's price. Reinvest the proceeds into higher-growth sectors as new eras open.
09
🏆
Reach the Space Age
The ultimate goal is reaching the Space Age (Era 5) with a high net worth and stable civilization. Space sectors — Space Industry, Fusion Energy, AI Systems — carry the highest volatility but also the highest reward. Manage risk carefully at this final stage.
Game Logic

The mechanics behind the market

INDEX = (avg sector price ÷ avg base price) × 1,000
The Civilization Stock Index is computed each turn from all active sectors. 1,000 = baseline. Your investment choices directly move this number.
ERA ADVANCE = Index ≥ threshold AND Net Worth ≥ portfolio gate AND Population ≥ pop gate
All three conditions must be true simultaneously. Net Worth = cash in hand + all share holdings at current market price. Portfolio gates: 1,500 → 4,000 → 12,000 → 35,000. Population gates: 50 → 200 → 800 → 3,000.

📈 Price Movement Each Turn

Base
Each sector has a base volatility (vol). Food = 2.8%, Space = 9.5%. Prices move by a random amount scaled by this volatility, slightly skewed positive (+0.03% edge each turn).
Era
As eras advance, volatility multiplies by 1 + (era × 12%). Later eras are significantly more volatile — the Space Age swings wildly each turn.
Bubble
Over-buying a sector inflates a bubble score (0–100). Above 70, a 25% chance per turn triggers a crash: −60% price, −25 stability. Bubble scores decay 2 points per turn naturally.

⚡ Event Choices & Market Impact

Boost
Positive effects apply as: price × (1 + pct × random_factor / 100) where random_factor is 0.5–1.4. Outcomes are never exactly the stated percentage — expect variance.
Damage
Negative effects work the same way but reduce price. A sector's price can never drop below 8 credits — a hard floor prevents total collapse of a single sector.
Trap
If you choose an option that boosts sectors you already own shares in, the game detects market manipulation. Each instance costs −7 stability. At 3 manipulations, the Banking Collapse story arc triggers.

🚪 Triple Era Gate System

Index
The Index Gate is met when the Civilization Stock Index crosses the era threshold (1,300 / 2,100 / 3,200 / 4,800). This measures how much sector prices have grown above their base values — driven by your trades and event outcomes.
Portfolio
The Portfolio Gate requires net worth (cash + all holdings at current prices) to reach 1,500 / 4,000 / 12,000 / 35,000. This cannot be faked — hoarding cash alone won't grow it fast enough. You must invest and let values appreciate.
Population
The Population Gate requires your civilization to reach 50 / 200 / 800 / 3,000 people. Population grows when stability and happiness are high and food prices are healthy — and shrinks when they collapse. A declining population can block era advancement even if your index and wealth are ready.
Regression
Era regression triggers when the index falls below the regression threshold AND stability drops below 40 or happiness collapses below 25 — not by portfolio loss. During regression, 20% of your population perishes instantly.

🌍 Stability & Happiness System

Recovery
Stability recovers at +0.5 per turn naturally. Happiness recovers slower — between +0.1 and +0.6 per turn — depending on food prices. Both are capped at 100. There's no fast shortcut after a crisis; patience is the only cure.
Food Link
Food sector price directly drives happiness recovery. When food prices are above 120% of base, happiness recovers at +0.6/turn. Below 60% of base, it barely recovers (+0.1). Event choices that tank food prices can quietly stall your civilization's mood and population growth.
Collapse
Collapse triggers when the index drops below the regression threshold AND stability is below 40 or happiness is below 25. You lose one era. During collapse, 20% of your population perishes.
Alert
A red banner alert appears when stability drops below 50. At 30 it becomes critical. This is your warning to stop making aggressive choices and let the market stabilize.

◈ Story Arcs

Trigger
Story arcs are multi-event narrative chains triggered by market conditions. Example: if the Tools sector reaches 120, The Fire Age arc begins — a sequence of related events with modified sector prices.
Good
The Golden Age arc triggers when your total wealth hits 5,000 and stability ≥ 90 in the Industrial era — rewarding smart, balanced play with boosted industry and tech prices.
Bad
Civil War triggers if stability drops to 30 in the Agrarian era. AI Singularity if Tech crosses 320 in the Information Age. Arcs are permanent — once triggered, they shape the rest of that era.
⚠️
There are 10 story arcs across all 5 eras. Most are triggered by your behaviour — over-investing in one sector, manipulating markets, or letting stability collapse. Pay attention to the event log for arc notifications.
Strategy

Tips for new commanders

🎯
Diversify early
Spread credits across all 3 starting sectors (Food, Tools, Tribal). A single sector crash won't ruin you if your index is balanced. Concentration is risky until you understand the event pool.
📖
Read before you buy
Before choosing an event response, check which sectors you hold. Picking options that boost your own holdings triggers manipulation penalties. Sometimes the "wrong" choice for profit is the right choice for stability.
🔁
Sell before era shifts
When the index approaches an era threshold, old sectors (Food, Tools) tend to plateau. Sell them to fund heavy buys in the newly unlocked high-base sectors of the next era.
💡
Trust insider tips
Insider tips appear every 5 turns with 65–75% accuracy. If a tip says a sector is heading up, buy a small position before the next turn fires. If it says down, reduce exposure or wait it out.
⚠️
Watch the bubble meter
Every large buy inflates the bubble score for that sector. If you see the "Sector Bubble Risk" warning in the right panel, stop buying that sector immediately and let it decay for a few turns.
🛡️
Keep stability and happiness up
Stability and happiness are both safety nets. If stability drops near 50, play it safe — choose event options that avoid stability penalties. Watch happiness too: it's tied to food sector prices and drives population growth. Low happiness below 25 can trigger era regression just like low stability.
👥
Grow your population
Population is now a third gate for era advancement — not just a cosmetic stat. It grows when stability > 60, happiness > 50, and food prices are healthy. It falls when stability collapses or food is scarce. Keep food sector prices strong and your people will multiply in time.
🚀
Space Age is high risk
Space, AI Systems, and Fusion Energy have volatility of 7.5–9.5%. A single turn can move prices ±20%. Enter the Space Age with a solid cash reserve so you can buy dips without risking collapse.
🔄
Offline simulation
The game simulates up to 48 turns while you're away (up to 24 hours). Come back to a Planetary Report showing what happened. Stability decays 1.5 points/hour offline — don't leave with low stability.
🚪
Era needs wealth AND people
Reaching the index threshold is not enough to advance eras. You also need a minimum net worth (1,500 → 4,000 → 12,000 → 35,000) and a minimum population (50 → 200 → 800 → 3,000). Track all three bars in the Era Progress panel. The Planetary Wizard will warn you if the index is ready but your wealth or population falls short.
